Summary
SafeTest stores the outcome of its most recent test and reports it through the status LED. Clearing the stored result is done from Settings Mode Level 1 using 9 short button presses.
There are two separate but related functions that are easy to confuse:
| Function | Where | Input | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clear LED Flash | Normal mode | 3 short presses | Attempts to return the device to normal mode, or reports an error. Does not clear the stored result. |
| Clear Test Result | Settings Mode Level 1 | 9 short presses | Clears the stored test result from memory. |
Use Clear Test Result when the underlying fault has been rectified and the stored failure needs to be removed from the device.
Before you begin
- Confirm the original fault has actually been resolved. Clearing a result does not fix the condition that caused it, and a failed result will simply be recorded again at the next test.
- The device must be connected to mains and in normal / standby mode, not mid test.
- Have a clear line of sight to the status LED.
- Settings Mode has a 5 second inactivity timeout. All presses must be made in one continuous run.
Step 1: Check the current stored result (optional but recommended)
From normal mode:
- Press the button twice, with short presses (under 2 seconds each).
- The device reports its last result. The pattern loops for 20 seconds to allow a visual check.
- If the device is in Self Test mode, it reports the device General Status.
- If the device is a Standalone unit, it gives a single amber flash.
- Refer to the General Status Table for the meaning of the reported pattern.
Record the result before clearing it, so there is a reference point if the fault recurs.
Step 2: Enter Settings Mode (Level 1)
- Press and hold the test button for more than 4 seconds (allow about 5 seconds).
- Release the button.
- The LED confirms entry with an alternating green / amber sequence.
If the alternating sequence does not appear, the device has not entered Settings Mode. Wait for it to return to normal and try again with a longer hold.
Step 3: Enter the clear command
- While the alternating green / amber sequence is running, press the button 9 times.
- Each press must be a short press (under 2 seconds), made in quick succession with no pause longer than 5 seconds.
Step 4: Confirm the command was accepted
The device acknowledges with:
- 9 amber flashes, at a 0.25 second flash rate
- The pattern loops for 20 seconds
Step 5: Verify the result was cleared
- Allow the device to return to normal operation.
- Press the button twice (short presses) to re-check the last result.
- The device should no longer report the previous failure.
If the previous result is still reported, repeat from Step 2.
Troubleshooting
"The result comes straight back after clearing." This is expected behaviour if the fault is still present. The device will record a new result at its next scheduled or manual test. Investigate the underlying fault, most commonly battery, lamp or charge circuit, rather than repeating the clear.
"I got a different number of flashes than expected." Confirmation flash counts wrap at 10. 9 presses (Clear test result) and 19 presses (Disable Function Test) both confirm with 9 amber flashes. If the customer over pressed, they may have entered the wrong command. Re-enter Settings Mode and count carefully.
"Nothing happened at all." Either the 5 second timeout expired mid count, or the presses were held too long and read as holds. Ask the customer to press at a steady rhythm of roughly two presses per second.
"The customer used 3 presses and says it did not clear the result." 3 presses in normal mode is Clear LED Flash, not Clear Test Result. It only attempts to return the device to normal mode or report an error. Direct them to the Settings Mode procedure above.
Quick reference
| Action | Mode | Input | LED confirmation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Check last result | Normal | 2 short presses | General Status pattern, or 1 amber flash if Standalone. Loops 20 s |
| Clear LED Flash | Normal | 3 short presses | Returns to normal mode, or shows Error |
| Enter Settings Mode Level 1 | Normal | 1 press, held over 4 seconds | Alternating green / amber |
| Clear test result | Settings Mode L1 | 9 short presses | 9 amber flashes (0.25 s), loops 20 s |
