Who can determine if a Fire Rated Downlight is suitable for my ceiling?

Only an accredited person such as a fire assessor, passive fire specialist, or building certifier can make this determination. They will:

• Review the fire test report and evidence of suitability for the Fire Rated Downlight.
• Assess the actual site ceiling construction (plasterboard type, number of layers, joist type, fixings).
• Verify that the proposed installation matches or falls within the permissible variations of the tested assembly.
• Confirm compliance with the NCC and any applicable state or territory regulations.

Electricians should not proceed with installation in a fire-rated ceiling without sign-off from a fire assessor. 
End users should engage a fire assessor before purchasing downlights for fire-rated applications.
