There's no fixed mounting height specified on the datasheet or instructions, because the correct height depends on the illuminance required at floor level and the spacing between fittings.
The heights below assume the design criterion is 0.2 lx minimum at floor level on the escape route, being the minimum required by AS/NZS 2293.1. If a higher illuminance is required — for example 1 lx along the centreline of a clear path, or elevated levels for high-risk task areas, plant rooms or open areas — mounting heights and spacings will need to be reduced accordingly.
Based on the photometric data for this luminaire (84 cd peak, ~216 lm per head, ~97° beam, twin adjustable heads):
- 2.2–3.0 m — standard wall-mount range for corridors, offices, stairwells, amenities and retail. Comfortable spacing, heads aimed along the escape route.
- 3.0–4.0 m — suits industrial and back-of-house areas; reduce spacing accordingly.
- 4.0–5.0 m — the practical upper limit. Achievable, but the fitting is carrying the escape route rather than lighting the space, and spacing must be tightened.
- Minimum ~2.2 m — keep above door head height, out of reach, and out of direct line of sight to limit glare.
Head aiming. Both heads are independently adjustable. Aiming them approximately 25–30° below horizontal gives the greatest horizontal reach along an escape route — around 20% further than aiming steeply downward. Aiming more steeply (50–60° below horizontal) concentrates light closer to the wall and suits open-area coverage rather than corridor throw. Rotating the heads apart widens coverage along the wall but reduces forward reach, so it is only of benefit where the escape route runs along the wall rather than away from it.
Higher output alternative. Where greater reach or coverage is required, the EV-TWINSPOT-WP-PRO-HP delivers approximately 2.6 times the output (570 lm per head) and covers roughly twice the floor area at the same mounting height and aiming.
Please note: the figures above are indicative only, derived from the luminaire's photometric file under ideal conditions and based on the 0.2 lx minimum. Actual performance depends on room geometry, surface reflectances, obstructions, luminaire spacing, aiming angle and the maintenance factor applied. Emergency lighting layouts must be confirmed by a qualified lighting designer or electrical engineer against AS/NZS 2293.1, using the luminaire's AS/NZS 2293.3 classification and the corresponding spacing tables.
